Mental Training/Performance Consulting

The Process

To be happy and healthy, we need to carry out various role responsibilities as best we can -- whether as an athlete, a manager, an executive, etc.
To perform these roles at the highest levels, we need to function mentally at the highest levels. State of the art mental training is a set of skills which can be learned, practiced, refined, and incorporated into our lives. For managers and others who perform in high-stress, high-demand situations, mental toughness is especially called for to cultivate resilience and enhance one's internal sense of security.

With a foundation based on mindfulness practice, this consultation will address relaxation, concentration, activation, visualization, and positive mental states--all key components geared to peak performance and a competitive edge.

In order to improve performance, it's necessary to begin with a clear objective, which can be derived from a good evaluation. That will also yield an understanding of the current hindrances to improved performance. That will help define a strategy to meet the desired objective. Initial consultations are often complex, but a built-in 360 degree feedback loop insures against redundancy and misdirected effort.

To be effective, a psychologist must find a creative way to navigate the unique mental map each individual or group presents. This requires skilled mental and emotional empathy on the part of the psychologist, so that a 'cookbook' approach to intervention, of which there are many, is avoided. A tailored, lasting and useful intervention will result in improved performance.
